Notes: Tape stock: Black Maxell UDII reel tape. Transfer info: Akai GX 636 >> Apogee Mini Me(24/96) >> Apogee Mini Dac(monitoring/mastering) >> LynxOne Soundcard >> Wavelab 5.0 >> DVD at 24 bit 96 kHz Will's reel was dubbed in the spring of 1979 and to the best of my knowledge, has been the source to the circulating version. However, in this case, Pat Lee dubbed his reel off of will's so it could have been Pat's reel that has been the source through the years. I do know Will's reel has hardly been played and in pristine condition and the results bear this out- Matt Smith Audience patches come from master tapes recorded by Gene Taback aka Snoid at LL. He and sent to me for this project. Some mastering and pitch correction was performed to improve the sound. The Johnny B Goode is on Gene's tape but likely isn't from that night, but we left it just because we wanted and because memories still seem hazy. Almost no music is missing from this now, short of the casey jones..2 patches in darkstar, 2 in china cat and tons of others. enjoy. Another slightly better audience tape is in the works. This may be re-released some day. As it stands, certainly an enjoyable listen. Editing and Final Mastering by Jamie Waddell ([email protected]) on the GEMS Edit Station. Notes: Sound quality grade assigned because of numerous small partial drop outs in left channel. These don't interfere any way with enjoying a fine show. The Playin' is another one of those nicely jammed out set 1 closers. But the center piece of this show is the Dark Star. The first part is classic '72 jazzy rock jamming. But watch out for the 2nd part - after the verse they beccome evil and sinister - its sounds like the noises you expect to hear in a sci-fi movie where there is a big space ship in deep space and you're the only one on board. Wow! Then the transition into Stella is so smooooth.

Notes: flac16; Source: SBD>MR>R>C>WAV>FLAC Patch Source: Unknown AUD>??>C>WAV>FLAC; C>FLAC Conversion by Cousinit [2009-09-04]Sound mix is not up to what we expect for this show - phil's bass is muddy; Keith is occasionally high in the mix; highlights are the usual PITB and Dark Star - the latter has an extended "spooky-esque" jam section

On listening to it I elevated my assessment of the playing on this date. I guess I can hear more of the nuances or something.
