Notes: Executive summary: solid show, typical great '72 setlist lots of jams but none were transcendental. Details: Playin', He's Gone nicely jammed as they always seem to be in fall '72. The Truckin' & Dark Star jamming style sounds like they are noddling, searching for a theme, but they never quite settle on one, just stony meandering. This does make for an effective entry into Dew which has a slow build-up at the start. GSET-I like this song and Jerry's guitar sound and it sounds like he likes playing it too. There are a few sound issues with the mix changing and cuts and what not that give this a slightly reduced sound rating. [9/20/04 - I have upgraded my opinion o fthe Truckin' jam on this date - very nice Europe 72 style with good ensemble playing. Also, the PITB has a different sound tone than others and is also worthy for that reason. The Star and Dew seem played somewhat pro-forma.]

Notes: sbd - hollister upgrade ~6/2003. [2206-02-14] Sound qulaity is good but the first few minutes of Truckin' have notable pitch variations. Candyman has that nice "drippy" Garcia sound. There is a nice mix of 72 standalone tunes - Box, Sugaree, China > Rider, GSET, Deal He's Gone (Vocals reminiscent of the great 5/6/81 Nassau version) and as usual a solid PITB. Set 1 ends with a Casey Jones which also was typical for this time. Set 2 has a strong Truckin' > Star > Dew. There weren't many times when Truckin' was followed by Dew. Truckin' outro has some Lesh bass chord "bombs" with Garcia doing some sustained notes and Bobby on the wah-wah that is intriguing. This is a strong 72 show. The Star isn't a fully developed version with all the verses and explaoratory jams between each. It is more of a bridge between Truckin' and Dew.
