Notes: Jerry Moore aud via Weiner - I'm guessing that the previous circulating version for this date that I seeded is most likely this Moore recording with the "akg mics" urban legend attached. The point is its a very good, if not excellent audience tape sound wise. The first set is a series of standalone tunes with no segues. There is some nice playing here but with the tuning gaps between songs, its hard to get excited and say that I want to leave this in the cd player on infinite loop mode. The Scarlet is the best song in set 1. Set 2's highlight was the jammed out Slipknot! that is slow and spacey. The remaining tunes starting with Dancin' are fun for a listen. Not the best 76 show, but it is a great Moore recording. Sacrilege that it is, if the between song tuning was edited out in set 1 it would be considered almost "studio" quality in performance, somewhat lacking in emotion.

Notes: Moore aud [2007-05-12] This source appeared at Losslesslegs with this lineage. aud c.m.>sbm1>dat>cdr>eac>cd wave>flac Transfer by Rob Berger '99, tracking by John Tallmadge. In the torrent Berger said Jerry liked this transfer better, but its hard to understand how it could be different or better than the Moore project that worked with the master cassettes. It seemed that Berger was systematically seeding every version he had without being able to specifically say why the existing versions are inferior. A review from the Archive "The 1st set of this show is well played, with Scarlet standing out and spreading its wings a little more than most versions. However, it's the 2nd set that shines here. H>S>F has always been a potent combination and this version packs a punch. It seems that the 76 versions were a little spacier (6/3,6/10,6/14,8/4, etc) while the 77's were tighter and more centered on the Franklin's groove. (2/26,4/23,5/9,6/9 etc.) Whichever type you prefer this one will leave a smile on your face. Its one of the most underrated, under appreciated H>S>F the Dead ever played. I would assume that the reason for this is because this show seems to be available only as an audience tape. However, Jerry Moore did an incredible job, as usual, with the equipment available to him at the time. The Dancin that snakes its way through the middle of the set is also hot and shows off the bands ability to go in and out of a song with ease. The end of the show (GDTRFB, Sat Nite, USBlues)is over-the-top rock and roll and sent everyone home on an up note." So if you like 76, this date all the characteristics of that year.

Great recording and great show. Love these undiscovered gems that occasionally appear. Like bones of prehistoric animals rising up from the La Brea tar pits.
