Comment
With John Cipollina on most of this, probably the reason the Dead always mixed him so low every time he played with them after this!

Notes: This is a very strange show. The start of Lovelight is clipped, with the recording improving from what is a ragged condition at first. The sound system has technical difficulties, with an intermittent buzz during portions of Lovelight from a bad electrical connection. There is some minor static at 9:30 of the first track. The vocals are very low in the mix, and difficulties with the sound system might explain a lack of singing during the second set, though the jams are very inspired. The recording includes a group chant between sets, which may include members of the band, crowd, a woman who sounds like Grace Slick, a child, an imposter-drummer, security etc.

Notes: Grateful Dead 6.19.68 Carousel Ballroom San Francisco, CA Bear's Ampex C-90 Soundboard master cassette>DAT>CDR complete?? There is no way to describe this show?? All of the published setlists can't really do it justice as this is like no other "show" I've ever heard. Here are the notes I made when I first got this years ago: DISC ONE: 1./LOVELIGHT>JAMS>NOT FADE AWAY JAM>LOVELIGHT 34:38 -P.A. problems during - no vocals - unable(unwilling?) to fix show deteriorates into chaos. 2.Random audience members at the mic/Chaos/Chanting 40:01 track 2 as follows: ...at the mic chanting> Drums @14:00> chanting> kid stumbles onstage and takes the mic @ 17:00> (the Dead has let the audience have the stage however it appears once an audience member begins to play one of the drummers kit's - the mood turns less than hospitable) mystery drummer gets his ass kicked/thrown off the drumset @19:00> Crowd/Chaos @22:00 cuts @ 25:00 DISC TWO: 1.THE SEVEN JAM> 11:08 2.FUNKY JAM/SPACEY JAM> 6:43 3.FUNK JAM #2> 17:36 Track 3 as follows: with unknown percussionist (Richie Havens opened this show - one of his percussionists could have joined the Dead or an audience member - both drummers are audible PLUS this percussionist) percussion jam @ 10:42> nice Phil @ 11:00> Jerry solo @13:00 > Space @ 16:00> 4.THE OTHER ONE JAM 12:58 -long jams with no vocals - no rules - a truely unique Dead show.
