This is one of the top dates from 79 for uniform playing both sets. See my review of the aud source for details. | Notes: | Aud - WOW! This is a great aud and a great show. I listened to this at the end of my 79 blitz and despite my acclimation to 79, this one came across with a freshness. Sound is great, with Phil's bass in your face from the start. The show is also very solid for both sets. Set 1 starts with lots of energy with an Alabama > GSET. Dire Wolf, CR&S are nice Garcia tunes that aren't overly played on this tour. The set closing Althea > Sailor > Saint leaves the audience jazzed for set 2. Set 2 starts with a really funky and jammed Shakedown that segues into Samson. This maintains the energy level (many times Shakedown was performed standalone). Sip gives the crowd and band time to recoup their energy. Bobby announces before He's Gone that its sort of a slow song but it won't be that way forever. The He's Gone > TOO > Jam is great. The aft end of set 2 with Space > Peter > Miracle > Bertha > Lovin' is a common song selection but well played. The double encore of JBG and DEMI are missing from this tape. Recommendation - this is worth a listen. One of the top shows of 1979. | |||||

The sbd doesn't come across nearly as well as the aud I guess because I wasn't left with the same enthusiasm after listening to this one, though some of the jams around TOO with Brent are not rote. | |||||
