This has NOT been released commercially as of 1/13/2007... These are
believed to be outtakes of the commercially released film "Grateful Dawg"
and was more then likely filmed by Justin Kreutzmann.
WARNING: This material is released under the "fair use" doctrine for
nonprofit educational purposes, with the intention and belief that such
limited noncommercial duplication will not adversely affect the potential
market for or value of the copyrighted works, because the users will
purchase authorized release if they become available.
Do NOT Buy or Sell this video... Sale of this unauthorized release is
prohibited...
Outtakes are usually not released commercially simply because they usually
contain cut or edited material that were not considered fit for commercial
release. This material on these "rehearsals/souncheck" DVDs & soon to follow
"Grateful Dead Home Movies 1986-1989" DVDs are IMHO pretty darn good. While
the video may not be perfectly shot, (i.e. blurring, zooming in/out issues),
I would think that is the reason Justin did not have these commercially
released, or released at all for that matter as I've heard "they were stolen
from him."
That said ~ I THINK EVERYONE who enjoys these unauthorized "Home Movies"
releases should buy the commercial release of "Grateful Dawg" to show their
support for all involved commercially, including Justin Kreutzmann who
filmed it...

Teddy GoodBear Notes ~
The introduction before "Grateful Dawg" that night during show time (AFTER
this rehearsals/soundcheck) is as follows -
Grisman:
"We're gonna play a new original tune that Jerry and I wrote together. Sort
of a synthesis of our two styles. The Dead and the Dawg styles. This is
called 'Grateful Dawg'.....or 'Dawgful Dead'."
According to The Jerry Site "Grateful Dawg" and "The Thrill Is Gone" were
played on 12/17/1990. You can hear them both being still created and formed
during these "rehearsals/souncheck" on the 2/2/1991!!!
One of many reviews for the commercial release of "Grateful Dawg":
Jerry Garcia (nicknamed "Spud" or "Spudboy" by Grisman/Peter Rowan while in
"Old And In The Way" band) was famous as the visionary behind the Grateful
Dead, but his musical tastes were broad, and he found a rewarding partnership
with mandolinist David Grisman, whose distinctive "Dawg" style fused jazz
with bluegrass.
At its best, "Grateful Dawg" celebrates the easy friendship and truly
inspired musicianship of Garcia and Grisman through footage like this with
surprisingly crisp sound. As one of the film's commentators says, "Grisman
made Garcia tighter as a musician, while Garcia made Grisman looser, and
where they met they created an infectious, rootsy style they called "Grateful
Dawg".
The film's many highlights include instrumental versions of "Dawg Waltz",
"Shady Grove," and "Arabia," as well as splendid footage from Garcia and
Grisman's days in "Old & in the Way" band. Garcia and Grisman fans will enjoy
the glimpse at a rare musical alchemy. -- Anne Hurley, edit by Teddy "GoodBear"
Plot Synopsis:
Details the deeply rooted musical friendship between Jerry Garcia
and David Grisman. Includes live Garcia/Grisman performances as well as rare
and unique personal moments from the studio, backstage and home-style jam
sessions. Interviews with friends and family are intertwined with live and
archival elements, creating an intimate portrait of Jerry and David's
relationship.
Traces the Garcia/Grisman connection from their earliest days as budding
bluegrassers, through the creation of the legendary Old & In the Way in the
mid '70s, to the Garcia/Grisman Band that highlighted their love of
traditional acoustic music in the '90s. -- Amazon reviewer
