Notes: | Phish @ the Great Went "Disco" set 8-16-1997 Late Night (approx 2am morning of 8-17) Loring Air Force Base, Limestone, Maine 1.. unknown > (39:47) 2.. unknown (06:55) note : This is the Entire set, two sources spliced together. recording/transfer sources : track 1 = Sonic Studio DSM-6's (on glasses on 6'4" dude, ~20' from stage) > Sony D7 DAT recording and transfer by Jon Weber [email protected] able assistance from Darryl Snyder track 2 = Nakamichi CM-300 w/CP-1 caps -> Teac DA-P20 DAT recording and transfer by Adam Shiffman / Justin Brooks [email protected] performance note : This was a latenight set during the Great Went, that took place the morning of August 17. All four members of Phish played keyboards/synthesizers (with occasional vocal forays), sitting on the back of an eighteen-wheeler, which was parked near the entrance to the concert field. There was a small lighting rig. Earlier in the day there were a few thousand rave-style fliers circulating ambiguously advertising a "Disco" featuring MC Neoncellgap, DJ LeMore LaLip, etc, and you can hear some announcements to that effect at the end of the set. Also of note : brief footage of this set can be seen during the film "Bittersweet Motel", during the Great Went "2001" montage. recording note by taper Jon Weber : This is the entire set. For a while now, a partial version (the final 15+ minutes) of this set has been circulating in SHN format. Props to Adam and Justin for getting that out there. I've included the source listing for their source (which was used for track 2) above. Since I feel a little guilty for not circulating *my* source sooner, there are a few things worth noting. First, I was indeed rolling just as the set started. One of my best friends was working for DryGoods at the time, and she tipped me off to exactly where the latenight set was taking place.... so I was standing there with my equipment, waiting for them to start, before any crowd had shown up. Problem is, there were two subsequent "flaws" that prevented me from circulating this tape since then : 1.. the aforementioned DryGoods friend walks up to me early in the set, with her friend (now Paluska's wife), and I'm standing there with mic's on my glasses and wires hanging off of me. I try to play it off cool, as you'll unfortunately hear my attempt on the tape. I felt a little guilty getting the latenight info from her, and then Shushing her for taping purposes. Fortunately there's only about 20 seconds total of conversation. A nice phishstorical footnote is that this same friend is the one whose hearty laugh is featured at the end of the studio version of "Twist". 2... after the show, I got back to my tent and we were checking out Radio WENT. It seemed that they were rebroadcasting the main stage show, so I immediately hooked up my DAT and started recording. A classic stoner move, it turned out that I erased over the final ten minutes of the Disco Set, rendering my source Incomplete! So, for the longest time, and recalling that I saw a tape stand show up about halfway through the show.... I knew there was another source that would eventually surface and could provide the ending to my recording which started at the beginning. I spliced the two sources during a moment of audience applause 39+ minutes into the set -- I made no attempt to EQ or compress anything to match the sources, you will probably notice a difference, but no music was lost in the splice. Thanks to Phish for all the great memories and Went.... Jon Weber - Sept 2003

This only works if you have the edited version of the Disco Tent Jam (about 17:00) that seems to be on some ftps. Add "Disco Tent Jam" as d5t3 (after Loving Cup) Move "Bouncing" to d6t1 (before Tweezer) Disc 5 - 72:26 Disc 6 - 63:16 This shift retains set integrity AND puts the "Disco" in its proper chronological place... everything on 8 instead of 9.
