Notes: sbd - excellent mix and sound [2006-07-28] Listened on another drive down I5 to LA at dusk. Starts with ~ 5 upbeat and peppy tunes, each member selecting one to out do the previous one? All songs this noght are performed nearly falwlessly. Row Jimmy struck me as very good (maybe because of the switch of pace in set 1?) The set 2 jam has a He's Gone > Truckin > Jazzy jam > bass/drum > Spanish jam > DS (v1) > SMBH which is notable for the well developed Spanish jam, the Dark Star is extraordinarily brief and serves as a gear shifter from the Spanish Jam (well developed and lengthy) to Sing Me Back Home. The bass/drum "duet" is better than usual and the jazzy jam out of Truckin' features some fast, bluegrass style jazz pickin'. None of the jams are overextended. 1st set also has a HCS and PITB!

Notes: 10" Betty Board Reel > PCM501ES > Fostex D5 (Jace's tape) optical S/PDIF out > disk Transferred by Tim Deibert 5-18-02 [2007-03-30]There is a little swoshing or warble to the vocals (strange reverb) that may have resulted from the water or mold damage or some processing step. Bill is up in the mix. Missing the 1st tape becuase it was damaged by water/mold. Starts at end of HCS. Has your end of set 1 PITB , a set 2 C>R with the developing bridge jam but the must hear portion occurs in the jams after the Truckin' verses. the jam before the Spanish Jam is great ensemble playing. Though Dark Star is listed its mostly recognizable by the vocals which is unusual because it was more common for the vocals to be left out than to have the jams based so loosely on the Dark Star theme. The remainder of the show (Sing Me Back Home-> Sugar Magnolia, JBG) is standard. Again, the set 2 jams are worth some careful study.
